Understanding the Conduct Process
Due to Family Educational and Right to Privacy Act (FERPA), a student’s conduct file and the details of his/her situation cannot be shared with anyone without his/her written permission. If a student wishes to give a parent access, the student must sign a release of information. This can be obtained and submitted at the Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services office in 200 Lory Student Center.
Conduct hearings
Students can bring a support person/advisor/observer with them to the hearing, but it is not required. Such person may be an attorney. If someone does accompany the student, s/he is limited to providing counsel to the student and may not act as representative nor speak on his/her behalf.
More information on conduct hearings is available unders Services.
Parental notification
In accordance with the federal Family Educational Right to Privacy Act, Colorado State University has initiated a way to partner with parents whose students experience difficulties related to the use of alcohol or other drugs. Upon a student’s involvement with alcohol or other drugs, you will be notified via letter. Our efforts to address the difficulties your student is facing will be more effective if you partner with us. We encourage you to discuss this matter with your child. The brochure "Partnering With Parents" includes suggestions on how to discuss alcohol and drug related issues and should be included with the notification letter. Call 970-491-7165 if you would like receive a copy of this brochure.
Drugs and alcohol assistance

Mental health concerns
