Criminal Pre-Admission Hearings

What happens to my application when I indicate a previous criminal conviction and/or academic disciplinary action?

This question is asked on CSU's Application for Admission, and if you indicate "yes" to either of the two questions asked (see the top of page 8), your application is diverted from the Office of Admissions to the office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services for review.

Each situation is considered on an individual basis by the Executive Director of Campus Life. After her review, any of the following may occur:

  • Your application is cleared for full review by the Admissions Office.
  • You will be asked to provide more information on the situation to the Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services office.
  • You will be asked to attend a Pre-Admit Hearing. If you live within reasonable driving distance, this hearing will be conducted in person at CSU. If you are unable to attend in person, the hearing will occur via a conference call. Participants at this meeting may include but are not limited to representatives from Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services, the University Counseling Center, the Admissions Office, CSU Police Department, and Associated Students of CSU.

During the hearing, you will be asked to talk about the criminal conviction and/or the suspension/expulsion and should expect to be asked question by those in attendance.

Following the hearing, one of the following decisions will be made:

  • Your application will be cleared and returned to Admissions so that it may be processed
  • Your application will be cleared and returned to Admissions but certain conditions will be applied, such as
  • Your application will not be cleared, and Admissions will be notified to no longer consider your application.

Can I appeal the decision of the Pre-Admit Hearing?

No. The outcome of the hearing is the final decision of the university.
